The Formulas "using all responses" and Formula Filters features allows you to make calculations taking into account all responses collected and not just a single respondent's information. Enable this feature so that you can calculate averages, count responses, and more.
Formulas are variables that allow you to calculate scores, averages, and any advanced calculations that you wish to, later on, use in your survey, final page, email template, or even PDF Report.
This guide will teach you:
1. Formulas including all responses
Go to the Extra options tab and click Formulas in the Custom scoring section. Now click Create formula.
Once you've entered your calculation, just toggle the button include all survey responses in this formula calculation.
Once you've turned on the feature to include all responses in the calculation, here are some of the variables that you'll be able to use:
- *|response_count|* - shows the total number of responses received for the questionnaire
- *|total_custom_score_rank_order|* - the total custom score value ranked from highest to lowest
- *|qb1_custom_score_rank_order|* - the total custom score value of the question block, ranked from highest to lowest. You can replace qb1 with a different question block number (qb2, qb3, etc.) if you want to show the results from a different question block.
- *|q1_avg_custom_score|* - the average custom score of a question across all respondents.
- *|question_count|* - shows the total number of questions in the survey (including inactive questions)
If you would like to add another formula result (where the include all survey responses is not activated) in the formula where you enable the include all responses option, then you should add the variable *|fX_avg_result|*, where x is the number of the formula.
For example, if in formula 1 you have the variables *|q1_custom_score|*+ *|q2_custom_score|* and the include all survey responses is not active, and you want to use this calculation in formula 2, then you should use *|f1_avg_result|* and activate and include all survey responses button.
You can also look into the Master List that we have prepared for you and search there for variables.
The calculations including all responses do not work when you preview! You will need to collect a real response in order to test it.
Whenever you copy a survey, the 'including all responses' and therefore the filters, will NOT be copied with it. You will need to set up these formulas independently for each survey you create.
2. Formula Filters
If you're on the ReportR plan, you'll have the option to add a custom filter to the formulas that you've created.
When you create a custom filter, you will only calculate the scores for those respondents who meet the filter condition. Then you would set up a filter that specifies that the answer to question 1 must equal answer 1 "marketing", and then the formula will only be calculated for those people who answered "marketing" to the first question. You can then copy it and simply adjust the filter so that you can calculate results for people who selected different answer options.
Make sure you have turned on to include all survey responses in this formula calculation, then simply click the orange + button to add a new custom filter.
The default filter type is based on answers to a particular question. If you'd like to change this, click the arrow to access the drop-down menu of all available filter options, such as date, language, and quiz score.
Once you've chosen your filter type, or if you're using the default option of question and answer, choose which conditions need to be met for the formula score to be calculated.
Click Save Changes when you're done to save your calculations together with the conditions you've set.
- Use question logic to add points to a formula. Use this handy combination to calculate scores, to keep a count (for example, how many times a respondent answered "yes" throughout the survey), or show different outcome screens for different results.
Add the Formula KPI widget to display the results of the calculations that you have just set up. You can use this widget to have a quick visual representation of your calculations. KPI stands for key performance indicator, a quantifiable measure of performance over time for a specific objective.
Add the Formula Ranking widget to display the results from lowest score to highest score or highest to lowest. Each result that you choose to show will be displayed together with explanatory text immediately underneath.
