The report builder allows you to create reports with many different widgets. One of the most powerful design features is the ability to use images as backgrounds to each widget. But to harness that power, you need to understand how those widgets are layered.

At the right side of the screen, you'll see the layer hierarchy of all your widgets. Some examples:

Each of these layers, except for the Header, Content and Footer layers, can be configured independently. In the right example we've used a single column widget to add additional layers, giving some more flexibility.
Visualizing widget layers
In the below image we continue on that right example. We set the following configuration to visualize how the widget layers are nested.
- Report margins (Design tab): 5 mm
- All margins on all widgets : 5 px
Then we set different colors as the background for each of the widgets to help distinguish them.
This means you can layer up to 4 images (or background colors) over each other and then put text in on top of that. You can position everything using the margins on the different widgets.
Configuring a background on a widget
With a widget selected, you can find the background settings on the right side of the screen in the settings. These settings are available on most widgets (except the Header, Content, Footer, Image,...).
